Max Payne 3 in the works

With the film on the cusp of release, it seems Mr Payne is heading back to the land of videogames, too...

A brief, joyous snippet of news to start our day. Just yesterday we were hoping that the upcoming Max Payne movie may do enough to encourage a third game to be developed, and it turns out that’s pretty much the case.

According to the US-based EGM magazine’s October issue, a third Payne game is now in the works, although there’s no news on when we can expect to see it. The news is tempered slightly by the fact that original developers Remedy won’t be working on it, given that it's now up to its eyeballs in Alan Wake (which is surely bubbling up to being one of the most anticipated games ont he planet) right now. Instead, coding duties are being handled by the people behind the tie-in game to The Warriors.

That’s all we know of the project thus far, but for this writer at least, it’s a piece of news that he’s been waiting on for a very, very long time. If it can come three quarters of the way to matching Max Payne 2, then we’re in for a mighty good time…

I loved the first Max Payne game. The second was pretty good too, so I can't wait until this third installment. Of course, there's always the risk it'll cash in and be rubbish, but let's all hope not!
