10 lies told on DVD extras (and what they mean)
Simon Brew & John Moore
Wondering what everyone is going on about in the interviews and commentaries on your DVDs? Let us translate...
DVD extras, on their day, are a great addition to any movie or TV show. But if you're getting as fed up with the press kit rubbish that adorns too many discs as we are, then maybe this guide can help. Here's our quick look at some of the blatant lies told on DVD extras, and what they actually mean...
LIE 1 (and arguably the biggest porky of the lot)
He was always the first choice for the role.
(...after 15 other people turned it down)
LIE 2
I got the script and couldn't put it down
(...I hadn't seen a script in some time, and I wasn't letting this one go)
LIE 3
It jumped off the page
(...and the cheque jumped straight into my bank account)
LIE 4
XXX is such an amazing director.
(...I bet Scorsese is shitting himself)
LIE 5
He's really happy to let you improvise
(... he hasn't got a clue what he wants, and I couldn't remember my lines anyway)
LIE 6
The effects guys have done an amazing job with the budget they had
(...the special effects are crap)
LIE 7
It's amazing we got it done in the time we had
(...it isn't finished)
LIE 8
He's such a generous actor
(...he lent me a fiver for a coffee)
LIE 9
I'd work with them all again in an instant
(...I haven't got another job lined up)
LIE 10
It's like no film you've ever seen before
(...it's like every film you've seen before)
Honourable mention:
He's an actor's director
(...he was just as coked up as the rest of us)

Its really keeping with the spirit of the source material
(We ignored the comic, book, play etc we are basing the film on as well as the actual stuff that makes it good and doing our own crappy version that will dissapoint fans - see Fantastic 4 (2) Transformers, Wanted, LXG, From Hell etc...)
Re: 10 lies told on DVD extras (and what they mean)LIE 15: He brings a freshness that was vital to the role

Re: 10 lies told on DVD extras (and what they mean)The studio gave us complete freedom (I got 12 pages of notes every day, and they all contradicted one another)

He's continuing the franchise with respect to the already great work of the previous director, but bringing his own vision to the project.

Re: 10 lies told on DVD extras (and what they mean)Lie 20: My costar is a great kisser! (It's like making out with a cold flounder.)
Re: 10 lies told on DVD extras (and what they mean)Lie 22: Love scenes are rather awkward and not romantic at all with 30 grips and crew standing around looking at you. (Dude! I fucked Angelina Jolie!)
Lie 23: He was very supportive and respectful in our love scene, he made me feel comfortable (He kept on staring at my breasts and kept on going after the Director yelled Cut) |
