Work starts on Ghostbusters 3 script

Simon Brew

Who you gonna call? The executive producers of The Office, if you want a Ghostbusters 3 screenplay...

Rumblings have been coming from Sony for a little while now about the potential for resurrecting the Ghostbusters franchise, and given the amount of interest that the forthcoming videogame seems to have generated, it’s perhaps inevitably that talk of a third film has been gathering pace.

The more recent rumours surrounding a new team of Ghostbusters – led, perhaps, by Seth Rogen – being coached by the last lot, in a kind of passing over the baton kind of way. And while there’s no concrete word as to which direction Sony wants to go with the film, it’s now commissioned a screenplay for a third adventure, and one that will bring the original team together. Whether they remain the thrust of the flick remains to be seen.

On screenwriting duties aren’t Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis this time round, but instead it’s Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky that have been charged with penning Ghostbusters 3. The duo, who wrote the screenplay for Harold Ramis’ in-production The Year One, are best known for executive producing the US remake of The Office.

Nothing is likely to happen on the film now until the screenplay is finished off. So now we simply wait and see if this latest attempt to bring Ghostbusters 3 to life will enjoy any more success than the last few times…!

As long as its along the lines of the first film and not the second ( which quite frankly is pi$$ poor ) then fantastic. Personally I can see Rogan and co doing a great job, one of them could even play Oscar, Danas son from the second film.

Ordinarily I'd go "Pssscht, this'll be rubbish", but... damn, I love The Office US, I love Ghostbusters, this could actually work. But only if it has at least two of Spengler, Venkman and Stantz in it.

The US office is okish but why don't they get Ricky Gervais, who wrote the original (much better) The Office, to write it instead?

Speaking as someone who loved the UK Office... the US version is better, and Gervais would be an awful choice to write something like this.

Gervais did write an episode of the US Office. Wasn't one of the best ones, though.
