Quantum of Solace smashes US 007 record

Mr Bond has a good weekend in the States…
Going into the weekend, the latest James Bond adventure, Quantum Of Solace, was already on course for major numbers, courtesy of its rollout in many other territories – including the UK – in the two weeks prior. But it seems that the film is on course to be the most lucrative ever 007 adventure at the box office, courtesy of an American opening weekend that comes close to doubling that of Casino Royale.
Across the weekend, Quantum Of Solace took in $70.4m, ahead of last weekend’s winner, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which itself raked in a further $36.1m.
To further cheer the folks at Eon Productions, Quantum Of Solace’s non-US take has now broken through the quarter of a billion dollar mark, taking its overall take to date to $322m.
It should break half a billion dollars by the end of its run. Off the back of that, they might just make another...
