The Hobbit: set to shoot for a year
Simon Brew
Guillermo del Toro will get his cameras rolling on The Hobbit in 2010. For a long time...
Following in the footsteps of Peter Jackson’s marathon shoot for Lord Of The Rings, Guillermo del Toro has given an interview to the website BilboHobbit, where he’s confirmed that the production of the two Hobbit films is going to be an equally elongated process.
del Toro confirms in the piece that shooting for the project is not set to begin until 2010, and that the duration of filming will be 370 days. That’s a fair whack longer than Lord Of The Rings was before the cameras for. Assuming a January start, it’d give the production team less than a year in post-production too, which given how effects-heavy the film is likely to be, could prove to be a bit of a squeeze.
The first movie will be in cinemas in December 2011, and while it’s a little early for us to be counting down the days, we simply can’t wait. Here’s the link to the BilboHobbit story, which came out of this live web chat at the site…
