Doctor Who: 11 doctors to reunite for Children In Need?

Martin Anderson

Even the legendarily elusive Tom Baker is in, it seems...

Published on Jun 23, 2009

The Daily Mirror reports that the biggest Doctor Who reunion ever is set for this year's Children In Need.

Incoming Doc Matt Smith is said to be joining David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, Tom Baker, Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy, with the now-deceased earlier Doctors (Troughton, Hartnell, Pertwee) substituted with a little screen wizardry. The one-off 15-minute special is said to be airing on the Children In Need telethon in November, and filming for the segment is said to begin in September. All actors are reported to be waiving their fees for the appearance.

Little is known of the plot, except that 10th Doctor David Tennant will allegedly be getting some help during a mission from all the previous versions of himself.

A source from the Mirror article says: “This is a momentous episode for all Doctor Who fans. Never before have all the Doctors been in the same room, let alone in the same show. It’s been a logistical nightmare getting all the actors together and available for shooting on the same days. But the script has already been started and it’s classic Doctor Who – really witty and very sharp. Viewers will see the Time Lords regenerating and emerging one by one from the Tardis, each with their own quirky opening line. David Tennant is the central character in the episode. He’s trying to hunt down some special time travel apparatus. What he’s actually lost has not yet been decided, but the idea is for all the other Doctors to club together to help David find it. The actors who are no longer with us, William, Jon and Patrick, will make special cameo appearances, with footage from original shows being flashed up on screen. It’s a really exciting project – and all for a good cause.”

The article doesn't seem to specifically mention Colin Baker's inclusion in the piece, but the numbers suggest he is also taking part - if this all turns out to be true.

Official word from the BBC on the report is: "Nothing has been finalised yet, although there is discussion of a Children in Need Doctor Who special. It is too early to say what."

The largest convention of Doctors was in 1983, for The Five Doctors, and 1993 brought Doctors 3-7 back for another Children In Need appearance - the last time that Tom Baker played the time-lord.

Whilst I would love this to happen, there are two points to consider, namely a) this same story ran last year, and b) remember 'Dimensions in Time'...?

I'd have more faith in the story if the Mirror piece "reporting" it wasn't the most horrendously stupid and ill-researched thing I've ever seen written about Who. Who could forget the classic special in Barcelona?

It's exactly the same story The Mirror ran last year with Matt Smith's name added. And includes this gem. "This is not the first Doctor Who special. Three years ago, Piper and Tennant filmed a show in Barcelona for Children in Need, while the first festive special aired on Christmas Day 2005." So about the same level of accuracy as most of the news stories on this site then!

So about the same level of accuracy as most of the news stories on this site then! Read the piece carefully and tell me where it says this story is fact rather than rumour.

(just to clarify, wasn't having a go at DoG for reporting this - just at the Mirror for such an appallingly written piece that makes me wonder how they can claim to have such unique inside info about a show they seem to know nothing about)

It doesn't mention Paul McGann either!

Okaaaaays, well we are talking The Mirror here, and whether its fact or not its certainly got us all musing about the possibility of such yeah ? the kinda stuff dreams are made of. Shame it would only be a short special, as there could be real leg room to expand much further with such a notion, plus lots of diversity , well you all have expansive imaginations regarding plots for this eh? I cant see how DoG could be blamed for reporting a POSSIBILITY that had been reported in a newspaper?! It is newsworthy , it is worthy of discussion, its interesting (if only a concept) and dammit its Doctor Who :o))

Mmm well one this would be a remarkably bad idea if it was to happen. Two. It ain't gonna happen. Three. Neither Baker looks anything like they did in their Dr days. Four. Matt Smiths 1st appearance surrounded by his contempories & with the 10th Dr as the lead? Five. Please can this site stop this slip into rumour land? Its okay to openly discuss speculation & rumour but their seems to be a bit too many stories being reported as seemingly gospel & Five. Please sort our paragraphs & formatting on these text boxes.

At least this reported rumour has come from a national newspaper (as unreliable as it may be) and not the blog of some dude who works in a comic shop in LA!

even if it is true im not sitting through two hours of CIN for 15 minutes of WHO. thats what youtubes for. If they ever do 11 doctors though, I hope its longer than 15 minutes, otherwise its just gonna literally be a catchphrase bonanza, with no interaction.

in fact if they do ever make a multi doctor story, the more like http://comics.shipsinker.com/ this is it the better.
