Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!I don't know how anybody else is gonna take this, but guys that jacket and the entire bow tie, that is beyond geek it is so incredibly bad :-( Again I know it all comes down to how you see Doctor Who, so I know alot of you guys are gonna think it's cool but come on ! Please ! For me, personally, knowing that Doctor Who started out as an educational show for kids, I've always taken the best way to portray him, play him is by being the most awesomest teacher you can be and already we have him looking like crap ! He looks like my 5th Chemistry Teacher and that guy was such tool ! Hell yeah, I totally hope that not what Doctor turned into this time ... :-(
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Loving the Tim Wonnacott look!
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume! It's the way I dreamed they would go, not the gothic look everyone was expecting for Matt Smith!
The outfit has a 1940's feel to it.
Now give the Dr some balls make his stories dark and unpredictable and new monsters!

Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Loving the new look. Though dressing the Doctor as a teacher, then dressing his companion as a schoolgirl seems slightly on the dodgy side...
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!hmm, i have mixed feelings, i kind of like the classic series approach to it, however im not sure it suits Matt Smith and what will the new series fans make of it? Although having said that im sure that come spring i'll have come round to it
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!oh and the one part i really like about it is the bowtie, reminds me of patrick throughton
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Looks a lot like Indy Jones when he is 'teaching' - I actually quite like it, its eccentric but not over the top and works, looks like there will be less running and shouting and a more cerebral approach to things.
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Hmmm, not too keen, but I can't truly decide until I see the costume in action.
But all my life I've always hated Bow ties, they've always looked ridiculous to me.
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Looks very bookish. The kind of thing you'd expect on an old History professor or some elderly guy running a small book shop. The dickie may be a bit precious but that's the point I guess. They're pushing this "young man/old man" thing. So, seems fine to me.
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!I think the outfit is WHOA! DID YOU SEE KAREN GILLAN IN THAT PHOTO?! She is absolutely gorgeous! Bring on DW 2010!
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!I think Matt Smith could pull of something more stylish, like Edwardian gear but I think they're trying to age him, make him seem older than he is.
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!p.s. please give him some eyebrows!
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Lets give Matt Smith a chance. Yes - he is too young for the role & doesn't look right in the part & yes - the outfit is very dweeby looking but there must be quite a history of bad Doctor outfits by now (cricket gear & celery anyone?)- however it must be difficult for an unknown actor to take on the role of such a popular character & particularly if he has to follow in the footsteps of David Tennant.
If I was in his shoes I would go for an old-man-in-a-young-man's-body approach & see if it might work. Lets see if he has the chops before passing judgement.
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!Looks amazing for the most part, but what is with those BOOTS? With that suit? Just no.
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!give him a recorder and I'm sold!
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!I can't help but feel that we have taken a step back to the '80s, not a good time for the Dr as it took 16 years to get him back from then!
You could forgive Jon Pertwee anything as he represented a super-grandad and Tom Baker was a favorite uncle type but, we lost a lot with the idiosyncratic Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davidson characters. (I don't even remember Colin Baker!).
We seemed to have gained so much with the re-launch, gaining two very scrummy, vibrant, and relatable interpretations of the Dr. who frankly I for one wanted to watch and who have given the show a universal appeal. I don't think that I can stomach the tweeded "dickie bow" look for long and hope that Matt will be forced to change clothes soon, perhaps after this costume has been torn to shreds during an alien encounter?
Matt Smith is a good looking regeneration but the wardrobe dept. should have rebelled as this does him no favours at all!
Re: Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!p.s. I take it the Dr won't be meeting up with Captain Jack in this series 'cause that would just make him look quite pathetic! |

Picture: Matt Smith in his Doctor Who costume!
Simon Brew
The BBC reveals the look of Matt Smith as Doctor Who, as shooting commences on the fifth 'new' series of the show...
Believe it or not, but filming has begun on the fifth series of the revived Doctor Who, and the first under the stewardship of Steven Moffat. And, no doubt pre-empting fan-taken pictures that would otherwise appear, the BBC has posted a picture of Matt Smith as the Doctor, in his brand new costume.
Eccentricity is clearly key again, given the dickie bow and tweed jacket, and the picture also demonstrates the more convential clobber that new assistant Karen Gillan will be wearing. The article, which you can find the link for below, quotes Smith as saying, "The scripts are brilliant - I'm excited about the future and all the brilliant adventures I get to go on as the Doctor."
We won't get to see any of Smith's new adventures until next Spring, but expect news of the shape of Mr Moffat's maiden season to start emerging over the coming weeks.
