Doctor Who: More Daleks On The Way

Cameron K McEwan

2|entertain have announced their plans to release two new DVD box sets of Dalek stories old and new.

Published on Sep 2, 2009

Doctor Who fans are being treated to two DVD box sets in October, celebrating the Daleks with stories from both the 'classic' and 'new' series. Hitting the streets on October 5 is The Dalek War Set, a four-disc extravaganza featuring the Jon Pertwee stories Frontier In Space and Planet Of The Daleks.

The first tale, from 1973, features The Master and The Ogrons and leads directly into the following Dalek story. Since the mid-seventies, episode three of Planet Of The Daleks has only been available as a 16mm monochrome film recording, but for this DVD release it has been returned to full colour using a brand new process.

As always, 2|entertain have supplied numerous special features including: commentaries with Katy Manning (Jo Grant), writer Terrance Dicks, producer Barry Letts; documentaries on the making of each story; a biography of Roger Delgado, the first actor to play The Master; two Stripped For Action pieces, one examining The Third Doctor in his comic book adventures and the other The Daleks; and much, much more!

Coming out later in the same month is The Dalek Collection. This specially packaged DVD set features seven episodes from the new series of Doctor Who along with an exclusive interview with David Tennant. Stories included are: Dalek, Bad Wolf, Parting of the Ways, The Stolen Earth, Journey's End, Daleks In Manhattan and Evolution of the Daleks. Doctor Who: The Dalek Collection is released on October 20.

Who woulda thunk it? Only joking, I love the Daleks. I just think demand should be built up by Moffat giving 'em an entire season off (including the xmas specials).

Yeah, it would be nice to finally give the Daleks a break from the main show. But I think they'll want to make sure Smith gets to encounter them so will have something ready quickly. I would prefer a rest though.

... Guys, I'm with Twosheds 1 and Damon D ! We so have to give The Daleks a break next season and if wasn't for the fact that first episode of the next season does to The Daleks what they should of done forty years ago ( set them in WW2 ) I would of been severly pissed off seeing them back again !!! But hey I'm still angry at Russel T Davies over last episode of first season of new Doctor Who ! He gives Rose the power over time and space looking into eye of the Tardis and does she end Time War with it ?!? Nah ... here's hoping Steven Moffat does what we want him to do next season ! Not having The Daleks back for next few seasons is a start ... ;-)

It reminds me a bit of when Dalekmania started, before they put them to bed for a while with The Evil of the Daleks. Something like that might happen eventually, when they feel they don't need that crutch of Dalek popularity to lean on.
