New X-Files movie opens in States

Across the pond, the wait for more X-Files goodness is finally over...

For hardened fans of The X-Files, the wait is – finally – nearly over. The film has its Hollywood world premiere a day or two back, attended by the likes of Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and Chris Carter, and it hits US cinemas this weekend.

It faces some tough competition, too. The weekend is still expected to be ruled by The Dark Knight, which could even cross $300m at the US box office by Monday (and is at least expected to snare around $70m for itself), and the new Will Ferrell comedy, Step Brothers, also makes its debut.

For The X-Files, Fox will be looking for an opening weekend around the $25m mark, and most box office pundits are placing it somewhere between at least $19-23m. Early reviews remain roughly in line with those from the first film.

Our own review of The X-Files: I Want To Believe, which hits UK cinemas next Friday, the 1st of August, will be arriving in the next couple of days…
