The X-Files: Memorabilia Madness
Jenny Sanders
Jenny loves The X-Files. And she loves opening crisp new geeky goodies. So, of course, she films these events...
So I was in some shop in St. Albans, or somewhere, and they were selling off packets of The X-Files trading cards (Season 2) for 10p a throw. So I bought some, and then kind of forgot I'd bought them until about ten years later.
Of course, ten years later, eBay existed. So I went on a bit of a hunt, and found the box of cards on this video for...well, not very much. I'd just started to film 'live breaks' (are there many better ideas?) for sports cards, and The X-Files looked like a nice change to the advertised program.
It was about five minutes in that I realised there were 36 packs to go at, and I wasn't going at them too quickly. An exciting break had also been thwarted by shit distribution methods, so I turned off the camera and spent a whole morning rippin' and pullin'.
And how happy I was with the result. As a means of revisiting all your favourite X-Files moments, this was great. They covered everything - the characters, the episodes, the special effects and even the advertising. I was in my own little X-world and I hadn't even had to watch any of the DVDs. What has become of TV trading cards? Are they still out there? Or more to the point, are there any shows that even deserve them any more?
If you can stand half an hour of me blathering, you'll be surprised at what these cards bring back for you. You might even want some. Coz I've got loads.
